It was 1997, just one month before the curtain fell on an era. Walking through the bustling streets of Kowloon City, massive passenger planes swooped low between the densely packed buildings. The roar of the aircraft masked the city's clamor, yet it was the heartbeat of the city that the locals were most accustomed to. Once one of the world's most dangerous airports, it wove together Hong Kong's most unique and raw landscape. This photo captures more than just a landing; it is a permanent imprint of a Hong Kong that can never be replicated.

Shek-O: Magical Place is a deeply personal visual chronicle of the extraordinary coastal village of Shek-O, Hong Kong—the birthplace and lifelong sanctuary of photography artist ManChingKC. Spanning decades of work since he first picked up a fully mechanical camera at age 16, this book fulfills a lifelong dream of documenting the hometown that shaped his artistic soul.
